Installation Guide

Installing your Brook & Birch shower head

In the box
Shower head with filter installed, flexible hose, wall mount, rubber washers.

What you need
Nothing. Your hands are enough. If your old head is stuck, an adjustable wrench and a cloth will help.

Before you start
Leave your water supply on. You do not need to shut anything off. Just make sure the shower itself is off.

1. Remove your old shower head
Turn it counterclockwise, to the left, by hand. A little water may drip out, that's normal.

If it won't budge, wrap a cloth around it to protect the finish, grip it with an adjustable wrench, and turn left. Old heads seize up with mineral buildup and sometimes need one firm turn to break loose.

2. Check the threads
Look at the exposed shower arm. If there's old tape or grit on the threads, wipe it off with a cloth. A clean thread is what makes a leak-free seal.

3. Attach the wall mount
Screw it onto the shower arm clockwise, by hand, until it's snug. Do not use a wrench here. Hand-tight is correct, and overtightening can crack the fitting.

Make sure the rubber washer is seated inside the connector before you screw it on. It's the thing that actually stops leaks.

4. Connect the hose
One end to the mount, the other to the shower head. Both hand-tight. Check that each end has its washer.

5. Run it
Turn the shower on for thirty seconds before your first shower. This flushes out any loose filter material from manufacturing, so the first thing that comes out doesn't come out on you.

6. Check for drips
Look at each connection. A drip means a loose fitting or a missing washer, not a defect. Hand-tighten another quarter turn.

If something's not right

It drips at the connection. Unscrew it, check the rubber washer is there and sitting flat, screw it back on hand-tight. If it still drips, a wrap of plumber's tape on the threads seals it. Any hardware store, about two dollars.

The old head won't come off. Cloth plus adjustable wrench, turn left, one firm steady pull rather than jerking it.

Pressure feels weak. Check the hose isn't kinked behind the mount, and that the filter is seated fully in the head.

It won't screw on. US shower arms are a standard half-inch thread, so it fits almost everything. If it doesn't, send us a photo of your shower arm and we'll sort it out.
